Frequently Asked Questions About The Transkribus Subscription Plans

As part of our commitment to continuously improving and adapting to the diverse needs of our users, we are excited to announce a new pricing system that offers more flexibility, better value, and tailored solutions for a wide variety of use cases.

Our new pricing system introduces three subscription-based plans: ‘Individual’, ‘Scholar’, and ‘Organisation’. Each plan is designed to cater to the specific needs of a wide range of users such as genealogists, private collectors, individual researchers, and organisations and memory institutions such as archives, libraries, and museums. Each of them has their own unique, individual set of requirements which goes beyond just the segment they belong to. The new system is highly adaptable and also maintains a free option with the core features of Transkribus and provides the ability to purchase on-demand credit packages for handling spikes in demand. Also, you are able to unlock the complete processing allowance of a whole year instead of a monthly quota by choosing an annual instead of a monthly billing schedule. On top of the flexibility you gain for large projects in this way, this option comes at a discount equal to one free month per year.

Why the change?

In our new pricing model, we focus on providing better value to active users. We are shifting to fairer monetisation, placing importance on the functionality and usefulness of our services over sheer usage quantity. This is the next step in further improving the community-oriented, high-quality services Transkribus is known for.

The updated model also enables more customised and sustainable solutions. This change is designed to foster the platform’s long-term growth and development, ensuring that Transkribus continues to provide unique services while evolving to meet also future needs of our users.

To learn more about the new pricing system, including a detailed breakdown of the plans, features, and allowances, please visit our dedicated information page on our new website: https://www.transkribus.org/plans (still partially under construction).

Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to providing you with an even better experience through our new pricing system, and support you in making the most of Transkribus.

Frequently Asked Questions

When will the new pricing structure be implemented?

We’re currently in the process of rolling out the new pricing system. Our sales team is ready to assist you with organisational subscription plans, while Individual and Scholar plans will become available for purchase from 10 January 2024.

I currently have a subscription. What should I do?

There is no immediate action required on your part. Our customer success team will reach out to you, at which point you can decide whether to maintain your existing subscription or switch to a new plan.

With the new pricing, storage will be limited. What if I am currently using too much storage?

Don’t worry, we are allowing a 6-month transition period where we will individually contact accounts exceeding the limits to discuss next steps. There is no immediate need to delete or remove any files. Additionally, we are exploring solutions for converting storage-intensive data formats, such as uncompressed TIFF, to more efficient ones like JPG. This comes at no loss in text recognition quality, but will speed up processing and contribute to a better user experience.

What happens to the Transkribus credits already in my account?

Your credits will remain available without restrictions; they won’t expire and can be utilised as usual for any tools.

What are the benefits for cooperative members?

Members will have access to all platform features, regardless of the plan to which they subscribe. Additionally, members receive a 10% discount on all subscription plans and other products or services. A heavily discounted ticket to the annual Transkribus User Conference is also included with your membership.

How does the multi-seat system work?

Organisational subscription plans include varying amounts of user seats. Each user seat enables a team member to access all Transkribus features included in the subscription plan. We will also introduce a multi-seat system for institutional members, allowing them to add up to 15 member associates to their membership. All member associates will have access to all Transkribus features regardless of the plan they are on.

Will API usage cost fewer credits?

Yes, processing your material via our metagrapho API will consume only 50% of the credits that it would in the user interface.

Will the metagrapho API be available to all subscription plans?

Access to the metagrapho API will be limited to the Organisation plans.

Will it be possible to buy one-demand credit packages on top of an ongoing subscription?

Absolutely: You will be able to purchase on-demand credit packages in addition to  your existing subscription. This means you can enjoy the benefits of your subscription plan while also having the flexibility to buy additional credits in case you need to process a larger amount of pages within a short timeframe.

Will I be able to pay for my subscription annually?

Yes: We offer an annual billing option for your subscription. This way, you can access your Transkribus subscription for a full year without worrying about monthly payments, and take advantage of the attractive discount that comes with the annual subscription. Also, you will be able to access the processing allowance of the whole year at once instead of waiting for it to refill at the beginning of each month.

Will it be possible to pay subscriptions via invoice?

Yes: For annual payments, we offer an invoice option. This means that instead of making immediate online payment, either you or your institution will receive an invoice for the subscription fee, and upon payment, the subscription will be activated for the designated period.

Will the one credit still be worth one page?

The processing of one page is not going to consume more than one credit. You may have noticed that there are already cases where one page uses up less than one credit.  This depends on the type of material you wish to process. For the text recognition of handwritten material, the ratio is 1 credit = 1 page while, for printed material the ratio will be 0.5 credits = 1 page. Using our metagrapho processing API, even fewer credits are consumed. To see all credit ratios, have a look at our pricing page here: https://www.transkribus.org/plans
