Since 2018, Fondazione Banco di Napoli has been successfully using the Transkribus software to transcribe the documents kept by the Historical Archives of Banco di Napoli. In order to enhance and disseminate the great wealth of information in its archives, over the years the Foundation has experimented with the potential of Handwritten Text Recognition technology, acquiring skills and experience in dealing with its manuscript material and in presenting, on the web, the results of digitization projects.
The results of this effort, in particular the Pandetta Project (https://readcoop.eu/it/success-stories/the-pandetta-project-fondazione-banco-di-napoli/) have been reported by the European Cooperative READ, of which the Fondazione Banco di Napoli is a founding member, as one of the successful projects realized thanks to Transkribus.
By virtue of this experience, the 4-day course “Transkribus: Documenti trascritti, archivi accessibili” was created, dedicated to learning about the software for automated transcription of manuscript text and the uses of HTR technology in historical archives.
By experimenting with Transkribus on the documents of the Historical Archives of the Banco di Napoli, combining practical activities with reflections on the best use of the software features, the participants will be able to retrace the experience of the digitization team and directly measure themselves with the potential of this new technology.
