Transcribing, annotating and digitally editing archival documents | Bibliothèque nationale de France

The Digit_Hum initiative and the BnF Datalab are organising a day of presentation and exchange between the Transkribus and eScriptorium platforms on 9 and 10 May, followed by a day of practical workshops.

These platforms, used by more and more projects worldwide, aim to provide a set of tools for transcribing, annotating, and digitally editing historical documents (handwritten, printed, engraved, etc.). The automatic handwriting recognition (HTR) technologies they use allow the automatic transcription of text by training models adapted to a particular handwriting.

This event in French will allow each platform to present the new functionalities of their tools and to offer a practical workshop to people who want to learn (or improve) automatic recognition of text documents. Feedback from French or international projects using these platforms will help to better understand these tools and how they can be used.

This joint presentation day, completed by a discussion session, will help participants to choose the most suitable tool for their research, publishing or archiving needs. For those who wish, it will continue the next day with two sessions of practical application of the tools.
